Citizen is marking in September 2026 the 50th anniversary of its Eco-Drive technology.
Citizen introduced the world's first light powered analogue watch in 1976. The technology later became known as Eco-Drive and has become one of the company's defining watchmaking systems. Eco-Drive uses natural or artificial light to generate the electricity needed to run a watch, removing the need for conventional battery replacement.
For the anniversary models, Citizen has paired their technology with sattelite-sychronized timekeeping and designs based on two atmospheric phenomena: the green flash seen around the sunset and the purple aurorafound in polir skies.
The Power of Green Flash (CC4084-83Z) and The Power of Purple Aurora (CC4085-81Z) are limited to 1500 pieces each worldwide. Both are scheduled to launch in October 2026.
